- NIE – If you are relocating to Spain, the first document you will need is the Número de Identidad de Extranjero. This number is required to do pretty much everything in Spain, from opening a bank account to buying a SIM card or renting a flat. Obtaining an NIE requires a visit to the police station with the appropriate documents, copies and your original passport or ID card. Balearic Services can help you to make an appointment, fill out the forms, and you can choose to either come with us to the office or deliver your ID to us and we will take care of the whole process for you.
- Social Security number – In order to work in Spain you will need to register yourself with the Social Security office, where they will provide you with your unique social security number. Balearic Services will handle the booking and administration side of this process.
- Permanent registration – If you plan on staying in Spain for more than 90 days, you are required to register at the Oficina de extranjeros. Here you will be given your permanent NIE card which allows you to apply for a health card, register for island resident discounts and much more. Balearic Services will take care of your appointment and fill out all the necessary paperwork to make becoming a Mallorcan resident easy.
- Vehicle registration – In Spain, non-residents may drive a foreign registered vehicle for up to six months, however, if you are a resident in Spain you are only permitted to drive a foreign registered vehicle for up to thirty days. Importing your vehicle to Spain is a complicated and time consuming process. It involves trips to the ITV (Spanish MOT) centre, the city tax hall, the DGT and various trips to and from the bank. If you have endless time and zen like patience, you can do it yourself, if you don’t, let us do it for you.
